Thank You Design | Commercial and Lifestyle Photographer Portland, Maine

I got to photograph Thank You Design’s new website photos and it was truly a pleasure. The day was jam-packed, about 30 minutes after I got there and unpacked I got a frantic call from my husband telling me that our basement had flooded so badly that he was shoveling water out of our basement through the windows. We had been having some work done on our roof and the workers left tarps on the roof through a storm that funneled lots of water into our basement.

ANYWAY, even though I was pushing really hard to get some good photos so that I could get back to help my little family I’m proud of what I was able to capture in that short amount of time.

I’m excited to announce that you’ll be able to purchase postcards of some of work through Petalage Florals this week. The photo of the Iris was from Michelle’s garden last summer and she picked two other photos that I created last summer to add to her shop.

How being a mother has changed me | Portland, Maine | Commercial and Lifestyle Photographer

Being a mother is something I enjoy more each day. As I’m sure most people do I struggle with the balance. There are days where I feel I’m doing well as a mom but my creative juices are not being nurtured as a photographer and artist and there are days where I feel like I’m really pushing myself as an artist but barely holding it together as a mom. I enjoy this little being that I created SO much and cherish that I get to see his little personality shine through in new ways every day. I also take it very seriously. I am shaping a little person who will one day go out into the world. This has changed me so much as a person and an artist.

  1. I’m more confident. I trust my gut more now than I ever did. My purpose is so much more clear now and that has definitely helped with my direction and focus.

  2. I go with the flow harder than ever. I use to like to plan out what I was doing for the day, month, or year. It helped with my anxiety to know what was coming next. This is a little laughable when becoming a parent. I know have broad ideas of what is going to happen throughout the day, but if they don’t go as planned we just run with whatever is being thrown at us.

  3. I like the day-to-day. I use to love to focus on bigger things I was going to do and get excited for them, a big shoot, a trip to a new country, and drinks with a friend. I know find peace in the day-to-day monotony. It is also probably my anxiety speaking to that a little, but the day-to-day is really when the magic happens. The bambino memorizes a new song that we can sing together to, he has a new understanding that I get to witness or his own confidence grows just a little that makes a mama both proud and a little sad because I know I’m doing my job to prepare him for the world, but that he will not need me one day.

Long story long, I’m a VERY different person than I was when it was just me and my husband. While there are days that seem long and hard, there are days that seem too short and are filled with beautiful moments that I wish I could bottle them up and keep them forever. I’d never change this for anything.

My Mother’s Day prints are still available and I can work with you to make sure there are there to make the mama in your life feel special.

Mother's Day Prints | Portland, Maine | Still Life Photography

Mother’s day is around the corner and i’ll be offering 2 still life prints. I chose them because they are my personal favorites and they represent the joy and playfulness that motherhood shines into your life, which can be important things to remember on the tougher days of motherhood. As I type this my bambino is yelling “come mama!” Even through tough times this little innocent being still wants to be as close to me as possible and though there are days where I wish I had more space I know that him wanting me near will only last so long and to cherish every little moment of it.

You can make a purchase here.

Happy Mother’s day!

Tula | Portland, Maine Commercial Photographer

Tula was a lovely yoga studio in South Portland, Maine. It was my local spot and I loved it dearly. I got to call them a client and while also being one of their happy clients. It, unfortunately, closed down due to COVID. As the world starts to open up again and we all start to get hopeful again I can’t wait to get to know small studios again.

Some work I did last year for Shucks Maine Lobster

I did these during the first summer of COVID in my home without a stylist. It is a lot to have to think about lighting and composition for a product shoot, but I had so much fun getting in my own head and making these images come to life.

Flux Jewelry | Portland, Maine | Commercial Photographer

I got the opportunity to do some work for Flux Jewelry this year. Not only is Carly just a lovely individual, but she is also an incredibly talented artist. I’m not going to lie, I LOVED working with these pieces and I might have worn them around my house wishing they were a part of my personal jewelry collection.

I’d love to hear what you think!

Artist Statement

The last trip my family and I took was to Portugal. We had a lovely time exploring Portuguese streets and wandering vineyards. A week after our return everything shut down here in Maine. The photos I took in Portugal were taken before COVID changed the world and I look back at them in fondness and hope for the future.

As my plans for the year professionally and personally dissolved I started to create, focusing on my surroundings here in Maine. Flowers have always been a source of comfort and wonder for me and as spring approached here in Maine I honed in on them aiming to capture them in all their beauty. I photographed flowers from local florists or from my own backyard, truly focusing on what Maine offers.

I picked 10 photographic works for limited editions printed in South Portland by Maine Photo works on Hot Press Bright paper.

Tulip - Dutch Floral Still Life - Portland, Maine

Jessica Webb Commercial Photographer - Portland Maine

When the pandemic started I started to search for things to photograph in and around my home here in Portland, Maine. I turned to flowers. This tulip was growing outside and I loved the colors. The yellow, the black, the deep red, they all told a story. I wanted to capture it like a painting so I focused on a long exposure moving the light around the flower to get the effect I was looking for.

This is one of my first and favorite photos from the early pandemic days.

My Holiday Card - 2020

Jessica Webb - Commercial Photographer Portland, Maine

This year will be the first year for Jessica Webb Photography holiday cards. I’ve been wanting to do this every year, but when the holidays came around I was too busy with a bambino. With things being slower in 2020 I’ve had the opportunity to slow down and spend more time with my family and really sit down and focus on some of the aspects of the business that I’d like to expand. One of my musts for this year was getting the holiday cards out.

I selected the photo of the Anemone that I took this year. I’ve always loved flowers, but when the pandemic hit and I couldn’t take photos of people I really focused on the things that surrounded me in Maine. I was fortunate enough to meet Michelle from Petalage Florals. She invited me into her studio and I got to hand pick some flowers that spoke to me.

This image is made up of 5 plates that are stitched together to get the right level of dew, light, and shadow on the flower that I was trying to achieve.

I then had the image sent to Maine Photo Works in South Portland, where I was helped by Regan who did a lovely job of walking me through their printing process as well as their paper options. I chose to get samples to ensure I achieved the look I was going for and then moved onto printing. They offer a 15% discount when you order 20 or more prints!.

The rest of the process was getting the right paper, envelopes, and handwriting messages to everyone on this year’s list. This is a limited edition print and each print is signed, numbered, and dated.

I’ve so enjoyed the process and I’m already scheming up next year’s photo.

The Greyfield Inn - Cumberland Island, Georgia

I had the pleasure of visiting The Greyfield Inn last year. A boat whisks you away to Cumberland Island where you stay in the home of Margaret Ricketson, whose parents, Thomas and Lucy Carnegie, built it for her back in 1900. It is filled with artifacts and findings from the island.

It felt like an American fairytale, from the sprawling beaches to the ruins of the old Carnegie estate to the wild horses that occupy the island. It is a magical place and I’ve been plotting my return since we left.
